IHEC: Judicial Board Dismissed 38 Complaints Against Election Results

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) declared that the Judicial Board of Elections dismissed 38 complaints against the final results of the sixth term Kurdistan parliamentary elections, while affirming that "the remaining complaints will be addressed within the current week."

IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA that after submitting the commission's responses to 41 complaints regarding the election results to the Judicial Board of Elections, the board rejected 38 of these complaints and is proceeding with the remaining ones.

She stated that the three remaining complaints are presently under review, and the judiciary will determine the outcome within the current week.

Forty-one complaints were filed against the final results of the sixth term of Kurdistan parliamentary elections, which took place on October 20, 2024. The IHEC previously said that it has completed its responses to the complaints and has sent them to the Judicial Board to be decided on.

The special and general vote of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections were held on October 18 and 20, 2024, where the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) secured 23 out of 100 parliamentary seats with 409,548 votes in all four constituencies of the Kurdistan Region. 

Kurdistan President: Political parties will start talks to form a new cabinet

The Kurdistan Region's President, Nechirvan Barzani, told a press conference on Sunday, November 16, 2024, that the final results of the elections are expected to be confirmed during the current week.

"After that, the political parties will start talks to form a new cabinet,” he said.

PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire previously told a press conference that the Kurdish parties will soon start negotiations on forming the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) after the election results are approved by the judiciary.
