PUK President Affirms PUK's Commitment in Fulfilling Promises to Sulaymaniyah

On the 240th anniversary of the founding of Sulaymaniyah, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan said in a message that they will stand firm in fulfilling their promises to the people of Sulaymaniyah.

The following is the message from President Bafel:

With great love and hearts full of hope, we today celebrate the 240th anniversary of the founding of Sulaymaniyah—a city that, with each passing day, adds another chapter of pride to its golden history.  

On this special occasion, I extend my heartfelt greetings and appreciation to all the political, cultural, and social figures who have played an important and influential role in the history of this beloved city, helping to establish Sulaymaniyah as a symbol of Kurdish identity and justice. We pay tribute to the memory of the writers and artists who have elevated Sulaymaniyah to its status as a cultural hub, and we bow in respect to their legacy and enduring contributions.

Undoubtedly, we will never forget the loyalty and resilience of the noble sons and daughters of Sulaymaniyah, who, despite enduring difficult conditions, political persecution, and discrimination, remained unyielding—just like Mount Goizha.  

Those who have opposed Sulaymaniyah for any reason or overlooked this city have sadly failed to understand its rich history or recognise the people's vibrant spirit of freedom. The truth is that Sulaymaniyah rejects authoritarianism and injustice. Its free and enlightened spirit will never bow to an imposed will that stands against its aspirations.  

What Sulaymaniyah and its people need today is prosperity and essential services. What we must provide to Sulaymaniyah should far exceed what it has already contributed to Kurdistan. As for us, we are fully responsible for the well-being of our citizens and for fulfilling our promises. We will not compromise, nor will we allow any unfair or misguided policies to be implemented in this city. Sulaymaniyah is in our hearts, and we will protect it as dearly as we protect our own sight.

President Rashid Honours Sulaymaniyah's Legacy of Freedom & Culture

The President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, issued a congratulatory message on the anniversary of the founding of Sulaymaniyah, stating: "Sulaymaniyah is a city of innovation, love, art, and courage, and it is our duty to serve it."

The following is President Rashid's Message:

On the 240th anniversary of the founding of Sulaymaniyah, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of the cultural capital of Kurdistan. I also pay my respects to the spirit of Emir Ibrahim Pasha Baban, the founder of Sulaymaniyah. This city has been home to writers, intellectuals, and fighters, a city that has made great sacrifices in the national struggle for freedom.

Thousands of Sulaymaniyah’s sons and daughters have given their lives for freedom. Sulaymaniyah has long been a city of innovation, love, art, and courage, and its people are intelligent, vibrant, and profoundly patriotic. On this special occasion, it is our collective duty to serve the city.

I am confident that Sulaymaniyah, as a city of culture and patriotism, will remain at the forefront, continuing to grow and develop with each passing day.
