Latif Nerwayi, Head of the Media Board.
Latif Nerwayi, a member of the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has confirmed that forming the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is quite a complex task, as no single party can achieve the required majority of over half.
Latif Nerwayi, who is also the Head of PUK's Media Board, stated: "This time, the situation regarding the formation of the new government in the Kurdistan Region is different, as no party can secure the 50+1 percentage needed to delineate the government on its own and subsequently invite other parties to join and approve its programme."
Nerwayi stated: "The results of the recent elections for the Kurdistan Parliament have provoked significant changes, leading analysts and those concerned to consider various scenarios and expectations about the Region's future governance and the formation of the tenth cabinet of the KRG."
He continued: "Whether through a specific programme or merely by chance, following the elections and the announcement of the preliminary results, numerous meetings, conferences, and events have taken place in the Kurdistan Region, influencing this phase, as the Kurdish public is eager to see the new positions of the political parties."
"The question remains whether these microphones have facilitated a platform for the Region's political leaders to engage in direct negotiations in the near future, particularly among those parties with significant disagreements regarding governance and the formation of a new cabinet to address past governance failures," he continued.
Nerwayi concluded by saying: "Definitive answer to this question cannot be provided until we gain a clearer understanding of how much the involved parties have learned from previous mistakes."
