Iraqi President Discusses Bilateral Relations With Russian Ambassador

Iraqi President & Russian Ambassador meet at Salam Palace, Baghdad.
President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Russian Ambassador Elbrus Kutrashev today at Baghdad Palace to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Iraq and Russia in light of evolving regional and global challenges.
Ambassador Kutrashev conveyed warm regards from President Vladimir Putin and offered congratulations on the recent successful elections in the Kurdistan Region.
President Rashid expressed his appreciation for President Putin’s kind words and highlighted the importance of fostering the longstanding friendship between Iraq and Russia.
During the meeting, both parties explored opportunities to enhance collaboration, particularly in cultural and academic exchanges.
“Establishing scholarship programmes to facilitate academic partnerships between Baghdad and Moscow will promote knowledge sharing and deepen our mutual understanding,” remarked President Rashid.
Both sides also discussed pressing issues affecting the region, including the crises in Lebanon and Palestine.
President Rashid called for an immediate cessation of violence and the protection of innocent civilians, underscoring the need for united efforts to achieve stability and security across the region.
Additionally, President Rashid reiterated Iraq’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, advocating for diplomatic solutions to promote peace and stability on the global stage.
Ambassador Kutrashev reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Iraq, expressing a keen interest in collaborating across political, security, and economic sectors for the benefit of both nations.
