The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Iraqi parliament has initiated a campaign to gather signatures from MPs to implement the Federal Court's ruling on nationalising the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region within federal banks.
Karwan Yarwais, the rapporteur for the PUK bloc, informed PUKMEDIA: "We, as the PUK bloc, have commenced a signature collection campaign and have successfully gathered over 108 signatures for a memorandum urging the Presidency of the Iraqi parliament to address the federal Prime Minister and the Federal Supreme Court regarding the enforcement of the court's decision on the nationalisation of salaries for employees in the Kurdistan Region." He emphasised that the first clause of the Federal Court's decision clearly states that "nationalisation is only to occur in federal government banks operating outside the Kurdistan Region."
Yarwai added: "This campaign is a response to the demands of citizens and employees in the Region and aims to uphold the rule of law by implementing the Federal Supreme Court's ruling, which is the highest judicial authority in Iraq, with decisions that cannot be appealed or contested."
He further explained, "There is a provision in the federal budget law allowing the governorates to submit their payrolls to the federal government for disbursement," noting that establishing branches of federal banks in the Region's governorates is a crucial step towards the nationalisation of salaries.
