The Sulaymaniyah Province.
The Sulaymaniyah Governorate Administration is preparing to file a lawsuit with the Federal Supreme Court in Iraq against the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Ministers of Interior and Finance. This action is in response to their obstruction of the nationalisation of salaries for employees in government banks, as mandated by the Federal Court's decision.
According to information from PUKMEDIA, the Sulaymaniyah administration has commenced legal proceedings today against the Prime Minister of the KRG and the Ministers of Interior and Finance, citing their unlawful obstruction of the Federal Court's directives.
On 21st February 2024, the Federal Supreme Court ruled that the Prime Minister of the Federal Government and the Prime Minister of the KRG must ensure the nationalisation of salaries for employees across all ministries, governorates, and entities not affiliated with a ministry. This ruling also covers all employees of other government agencies, retirees, and beneficiaries of the social protection network, with payments to be processed through federal government banks operating outside the Kurdistan Region.
The ruling further mandates that the relevant amounts be deducted from the Region's share as specified in this year's budget law and for future years. Additionally, it requires all affected entities in the Region and their subdivisions to coordinate directly with the Federal Ministry of Finance for implementation and to engage with it regarding nationalisation, without involving the Kurdistan Region's representative office.
