The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displaced has announced the return of 767 displaced individuals from the Khazir and Hassan Sham U2 & U3 camps in Erbil to their homes in Nineveh, and that the ministry will spend over 3 billion Iraqi dinars in financial support in line with the directives of the Iraqi Council of Ministers.

A press release from the Federal Ministry of Migration and Displaced, which PUKMEDIA has obtained, states that this return is part of the Federal Government's programme aimed at facilitating the repatriation of displaced persons to their original homes.

According to the Federal Council of Ministers' guidelines, any displaced family returning from the camps to their homes will be granted 4 million dinars, along with a plot of land and eligibility for additional benefits and assistance.

There were over 600,000 displaced people in the Kurdistan Region due to the Islamic State (ISIS) war, however in recent years, the Iraqi Government devised a strategy to close all IDP camps in Iraq as part of effort to address the long-standing issue of displacement in Iraq, where most IDPs have either returned to their original homes or settled in informal settlements after the defeat of ISIS.
