Upon taking on political responsibilities in the capital, Baghdad, Nizar Amedi, the Minister of Environment in the federal government, has resigned from his role to assume the position of head of the Political Bureau in Baghdad.
According to press statements, Nizar Amedi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), relinquished his role as Minister of Environment to fulfil his new responsibilities as head of the Political Bureau in Baghdad, following his appointment after the fifth party Forum.
Nizar Amedi gained the confidence of the Iraqi parliament in December 2022 and was elected by a majority vote of its members to take on the duties of the Ministry of Environment in the current cabinet led by Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani.
In October 2023, Nizar Amedi was elected as a member of the Political Bureau during the meeting of the Leadership Council of the PUK and is set to begin his role as head of the Political Bureau in Baghdad, particularly as the PUK aims to strengthen its relationships with political parties and decision-making centres in Iraq to better serve the Kurdish people.
