The Iraqi parliament is set to resume its sessions and is due to vote on three significant bills. Karwan Yarwais, the rapporteur for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan parliamentary bloc, stated: "The bill to annul certain decisions of the Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) is one of the most crucial pieces of legislation concerning the Kurds."

Yarwais confirmed in a statement to PUKMEDIA that "the parliament will convene tomorrow, Saturday, after a three-week break due to the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections. The agenda includes voting on three bills, the most important for the Kurds being the cancellation of some decisions made by the dissolved RCC. The second bill pertains to a general amnesty law, which is particularly relevant to the Sunnis, and the third is an amendment to the Personal Status Law, supported by the Shiite community."

He added: "The approval of the law to annul certain decisions of the RCC will help facilitate the return of properties and lands to their rightful owners and mitigate the impacts of Arabisation and displacement. This is a vital and significant initiative for the Kurds."

Yarwais further explained that the decision to address these bills in a single session arises from a lack of trust among the various groups and concerns that one law might be passed without the others in separate sessions, hence all three have been included in Saturday's meeting.

He noted that "the PUK has made considerable efforts, engaging with parliamentary blocs and political parties to secure the passage of the bill to annul the decisions of the RCC, which will benefit all communities in the disputed areas."

Yarwais concluded: "With the approval of this project, over one million dunams of land will be returned to their rightful owners in Kirkuk and the disputed areas, resolving the ongoing disputes between landowners and those who encroached upon their properties under decisions made by the dissolved Ba'ath Regime."
