IHEC: Turnout in General Voting Hits 72%

Following the conclusion of the general voting process for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament elections, which lasted 11 hours, the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) reported a voter turnout of 72%.
Aysar Yasin, spokesperson for the Central Election Committee of the Kurdistan Region, announced during a news conference that the voter turnout for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections' general voting was 72%, adding that the voter turnout in the electoral constituencies was as follows: Erbil 74%, Sulaymaniyah 65%, Duhok 78% and Halabja 69%."
Meanwhile, Nabard Omar, head of the Elections Board of the Kurdistan Region, told the news conference that preliminary results of the elections will be announced on October 21, 2024. He also added that the IHEC will investigate the complaints and will later make decisions about them.
A total of 2,899,578 people, including general and special voters, were eligible to vote in the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections. Turnout was 31% until 12 PM (local time), but it later rose to 72%.
After six years, the general and special voting of the elections for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament took place, where the special voting took place on October 18, 2024, and general voting took place on October 20, 2024.
The IHEC prepared all logistical materials for the general election, printing 3,077,550 ballot papers. Each one included 136 electoral lists with 1,191 candidates, of which 368 are female candidates. They also included 84 independent candidates for general seats, 20 for Turkmen seats, and 18 for Christian seats.
For monitoring, there were 1,830 international observers, alongside 9,610 accredited local observers and 43,139 agents from political parties.
