IHEC Spokesperson: I Haven't Given Any Explanation on PUK 129 Spokesperson's Statement

The spokesperson for the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced that a statement attributed to her by a media outlet is false and that she will pursue legal action against the culprits for issuing it.

"The statement issued on my behalf is far from the truth. I have not issued any statement on the press conference of the PUK 129 Spokesperson," IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA.

"I have notified the chairman of the Board of Commissioners regarding the fake statement released in my name, so that legal measures are taken against those who have misled and issued the message on my behalf," she stated.

Karwan Gaznayi, spokesperson List 129 of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), announced the unofficial results of the special voting on Saturday, October 19, 2024. According to the results, the PUK was the winner in the special voting. 

Later, a statement was issued on behalf of the IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai, claiming that Karwan Gazneyi's statements were not true.

Several false other statements have been published before by the media outlet affiliated with a powerful wing of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on behalf of the IHEC Spokesperson, misleading citizens and contravening legal and ethical standards in journalism.
