In the past 48 hours, over 35 candidates, primarily from the People's Front list, have joined the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), citing concerns over Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) funding as a key reason for their departure and calling for ending the authoritarian rule.
Following the speeches of PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani and campaign rallies for the PUK List 129 in Erbil and Duhok, more than 35 candidates from the People's Front, the Gorran Movement, the Kurdistan National Alliance, Halwest, and independent lists have joined the PUK.
Candidates from the People's Front have cited the list's funding by the KDP as their reason for leaving, stating they will continue their struggle within the PUK and support the success of List 129.
The other candidates, along with those from the People's Front assert that the only way to rectify the course of governance and put an end to the authoritarian rule is through the PUK and President Bafel.
The majority of candidates joining the PUK are from the People's Front, and the number of resignations is rising as awareness grows that the list is associated with the KDP.
