A significant number of candidates from the People's Front have resigned and revealed that the People's Front receives financial and logistical support from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) for their electoral campaign in the Duhok constituency. A resigned candidate of the People's Front states: "We recently learnt that all the posters and banners of to the People's Front were provided by the KDP."
Over the past 24 hours, more than eight candidates from the People's Front in Duhok have resigned and joined the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). According to PUKMEDIA's information, numerous candidates from the People's Front and various other parties, together with hundreds of their supporters, are abandoning their affiliations to endorse PUK 129.
Saud Sabir Mohammed, a former candidate of the People's Front in Duhok constituency, said: "Upon discovering that the People's Front was receiving support from the KDP, we left. The one entity capable of sparking change is the PUK, and we urge all to endorse PUK 129, as it will bring about comprehensive change and will end self-imposition."
Hashim Salih, a former candidate of the People's Front in Duhok constituency, said: "The People's Front list constitutes the KDP's secondary list; therefore, we refused to proceed with them."
"President Bafel's speeches and messages exhibit sincerity, and we have confidence that significant changes will occur on his hands, so we will persist in our efforts within the PUK political framework," he stated.
The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is contesting with PUK List 129 and 172 candidates under the slogans "Correcting the Course of Governance" and "We Will End It."
