Following the speech of Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), in Duhok, 10 candidates announced their resignation from their lists and joined the ranks of the PUK.
The sixth campaign rally of PUK List 129 took place in Duhok on Monday, October 14, 2024, during which the PUK 129's candidates for the 6th term of Kurdistan parliamentary elections were introduced and PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani addressed the people of the Kurdistan Region.
Following PUK President's effective speech at the event, eight candidates of the People's Front named (Hashim Salih candidate No. 3, Lawand Younis Karim candidate No. 34, Shukriya Ahmad Ramazan candidate No. 33. Swad Sabir, candidate No. 23, Krdar Ali Hussein, candidate No. 16, Govan Naif Harki, candidate No. 24 and Sardar Mohammed Salih, candidate No. 22) announced their resignation from the People's Front list in Duhok province.
Meanwhile, two candidates of the National Coalition named (Abdulbaqi Amir, candidate No. 5 in Duhok, Ayman Ahmed Pire, candidate No. 11 in Erbil) announced their resignation from the National Coalition and joined the PUK.
At the Duhok rally, President Bafel told the people of Duhok: “We are here in Badinan (Duhok and its surroundings) to overthrow the dictatorial regime and restore freedom. They fear you; they fear the people's votes. Nobody believes the acting they do. We have arrived to save you from this police-like regime and to save you from those prisons that no one knows where they are. If you are a writer, you will be imprisoned. So I ask, "Is this a government?"
President Bafel told the rivals: "Our nation harbours no fear of you. Fear has gone. Today, fear is our ally. The entire people of Badinan oppose this. People affiliated with the KDP have reached out to me and told me that they will vote for the PUK, conveying their gratitude."
"They are terrified of this," he said, referring to his rivals in the KDP.
Previously, PUK 129 conducted campaign rallies in Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, Koya, Garmian & Raparin regions, and Duhok.
The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is contesting with PUK List 129 and 172 candidates under the slogans "Correcting the Course of Governance" and "We Will End It."
