Kurdistan Kurdistan Parliament Elections IHEC

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) imposed financial penalties on 11 candidates, predominantly from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), for violating its regulations.

The IHEC's Board of Commissioners announced that on October 6, 2024, it addressed 14 complaints regarding candidates for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, settling 11 with a penalty of 500,000 Iraqi dinars for each and dismissing three complaints.

The announcement indicates that the 11 complaints have been addressed through financial penalties, with eight of these lodged against KDP candidates.

Simultaneously, the remaining three complaints involve a candidate from New Generation, who was also penalised 500,000 Iraqi dinars, a candidate from the PUK, and an independent candidate.

As per information obtained by PUKMEDIA, the penalised candidates commenced their electoral campaign prior to the legally established date stipulated by the IHEC.
