Kirkuk Commemorates the Seventh Anniversary of President Mam Jalal

The Seventh Anniversary of President Mam Jalal in Kirkuk
The ceremonies marking the seventh anniversary of the late President Mam Jalal commenced this evening, Thursday 3rd October 2024, in the city of Kirkuk.
Among those in attendance were Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK); Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, the President of the Republic of Iraq; First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed; Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region; as well as senior party and government officials and various political and social figures.
Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir, the Chairman of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation (PJTF) announced that a second forum for this anniversary will be held in Basra at a later date.
Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir, announced that the ceremonies commemorating the seventh anniversary of President Mam Jalal will be held today in Kirkuk, attended by various political figures and leaders from Kurdish and Iraqi parties. He noted that previous ceremonies took place in Baghdad and Erbil in previous years. Additionally, he mentioned that last year’s first national forum took place in Najaf, and this year’s forum is planned for Basra, with preparations already underway.
Kirkuk Governor: Mam Jalal Devoted His Life for Iraq's Coexistence
After welcoming the attendees, Rebwar Taha, the governor of Kirkuk, gave a statement and stated: “Today, Kirkuk commemorates the anniversary of a leader who dedicated his life to freedom and coexistence in Iraq, and we must draw inspiration from him to continue following his noble path.”
“Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and particularly Kirkuk, require the wise policies of President Mam Jalal. It is our duty to collaborate in serving the people and rebuilding. I assure the citizens of Kirkuk that the local government's approach is in line with Mam's legacy of coexistence and service. Therefore, I urge everyone in Kirkuk to support us in this important mission," he added.
Iraqi President: Mam Jalal Played a Key Role in Promoting Coexistence in Iraq
Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid then delivered a speech emphasising President Mam Jalal's role in fostering coexistence in Iraq, particularly in Kirkuk. He stressed the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence in Kirkuk and strengthening harmony among the city's communities to better serve the citizens.
He said: "Mam Jalal devoted his life to the fight for freedom—freedom for the Kurdish people, national freedom for Iraq, and the elimination of dictatorship. His principles of democracy, human rights, women’s rights, and social justice guided every aspect of his work. His belief in unity, diversity, and coexistence was central to his vision of Iraq as a nation of many cultures and faiths, intertwined like a bouquet of flowers."
"As we gather here in Kirkuk, we remember Mam Jalal’s deep connection to this city. He viewed Kirkuk not just as a place of great wealth but as a smaller version of Iraq’s rich diversity. For him, the city’s population—a blend of Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, and Christians—symbolised the broader cultural and religious tapestry of our nation," he added, "Mam Jalal believed that addressing Kirkuk’s complex challenges required dialogue, cooperation, and a commitment to peaceful coexistence. His national perspective and dedication to unity were instrumental in fostering a policy of brotherhood and harmony among the city’s diverse communities."
PJTF Chairman: President Mam Jalal Remains a Living Leader in Our Hearts
At the end of the ceremony, Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir spoke on behalf of President Mam Jalal's family and the PJTF, stating: "President Mam Jalal remains a living leader in our hearts due to his dedication of over half a century to the freedom of his nation and the promotion of coexistence in Iraq."
Today, Thursday, 3rd October 2024, marks the anniversary of the passing of the late President Mam Jalal, a distinguished leader and struggler who played a pivotal role in achieving peace and constructing a democratic, federal Iraq. He was dedicated to safeguarding the rights of all its communities as outlined in the Constitution and worked tirelessly to tackle the challenges faced by both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
