The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) initiatives to support the people of Halabja in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are ongoing. At the Iraqi level, the city is striving to attain provincial status, while at the regional level, efforts are focused on fostering peace and increasing employment opportunities. Key projects for the PUK moving forward include officially recognising the province's borders, expanding the city, and creating more job opportunities.
PUK President's Effort for Halabja Continue
As part of President Bafel Jalal Talabani's commitment to Halabja, he called for the finalisation of its provincial status following the formation of the new federal government led by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. To advance this initiative, he undertook several trips to Baghdad, engaging with various political party leaders to push for progress on this matter. Currently, the first and second readings of the draft law have been completed, and President Bafel is working through the PUK bloc in the Iraqi parliament to ensure the file is finalised and the law is passed.
The PUK Offers Significant Services to Halabja
Iman Faraj, candidate No. 3 on the PUK's list No. 129 for the Halabja Constituency, stated to PUKMEDIA: "The PUK has consistently been at the forefront of serving the citizens of Halabja."
She stated: "The PUK is actively working through its representatives in parliament and the government to vote on the law to establish Halabja as a province. The services offered to Halabja have resulted from the dedicated efforts of the PUK."
"President Bafel Jalal Talabani's visit to Halabja stands apart from those of other leaders, as we are confident that he will bring numerous new projects for our region, unlike others who have merely made promises. With God's help, we will transform Halabja into a model province within Iraq," she added.
The PUK is the True Defender of Halabja
Saeed Qadir Faraj, candidate No. 2 on list No. 129 of the PUK for the Halabja Constituency, stated to PUKMEDIA: "The PUK is the true defender of the people of Halabja province. It has previously opposed terrorism and sabotage and continues to provide crucial services to the province."
He added: "The PUK and President Bafel Jalal Talabani have consistently defended the rights of the Halabja people. Any project implemented in Halabja has been the result of the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani."
He further explained: "The PUK has numerous programs aimed at serving the people of Halabja province, including officially defining the border crossings and creating job opportunities for youth, alongside many other initiatives."
The people of Halabja Have Great Faith in the PUK
Previously, Chro Hama Sharif, a representative of the PUK bloc, stated to PUKMEDIA: "The efforts of President Bafel Jalal Talabani and the PUK bloc to legislate the law establishing Halabja province are ongoing."
She added: "We have secured the approval and support of several parliamentary blocs to vote on the draft law, and we are committed to continuing our efforts until it is legislated in the Iraqi parliament."
She explained: "Halabja province has completed all legal and administrative procedures, and the only remaining step is to vote on the law in the Iraqi parliament to establish it as a new province formally."
Furthermore, she mentioned: "I requested to advocate for compensation for Halabja province, as it was harmed by the policies of the former Baathist regime. After submitting my request, Prime Minister al-Sudani has decided to grant compensation to Halabja."
The federal prime minister has allocated 50 billion dinars to compensate Halabja province for the damages it incurred due to the misguided policies of the former Baathist regime following the PUK bloc's request.
Today, Wednesday, Halabja Province is set to host a carnival to introduce the candidates of the PUK, with the attendance of President Bafel Jalal Talabani. The PUK aims to serve Halabja and has put forward six candidates for the seats in the Kurdistan Parliament.
