The Spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) List 129 announced in Erbil during his first press conference since the beginning of the elections campaign: "The PUK will end the suppression of free voices and we will end the imprisonment of journalists and free voices who are imprisoned and tortured for a single word."
PUK List Spokesperson Karwan Gazneyi told a news conference in Erbil: "We call for a peaceful and civilised election. This election is decisive and the vote of the citizens of the region is pivotal to determine a clear destiny."
"The Kurdistan Region is facing two obvious directions to correct the wrong path of governance. One is an authoritarian and aggressive wing, while the second is the PUK and its strong President. The voters can decide for themselves," he said.
He further stated: “In the light of President Bafel Jalal Talabani's message, the PUK will end the suppression of free voices and we will end the imprisonment of journalists and free voices who are imprisoned and tortured for a single word. We will end the imprisonment of Kurdistan within the Kurdistan Region. We will end the salary problem and playing with their fate. We will end party power within the governance. We will end the police-like government.”
He added: “The next government must be service-oriented and our youth must remain in their country. There must be no discrimination in services between one city. Only the PUK and President Bafel can end the aggressive and authoritarian mentality. The PUK believes in civil struggle and we have done what we have promised in the past and will do so in the future. It is up to the voters to trust us and put an end to this authoritarian rule.”
The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is contesting with PUK List 129 and 172 candidates under the slogan of "Correcting the Course of Governance and "We Will End It."
