PUK PUK 129 Kurdistan Parliament Elections Kurdistan Iraq

In his message to the voters, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), said: "The ruling party in Kurdistan is solely focused on its own interests and profits. Let’s be honest: citizens need their salaries. Baghdad is willing to send these payments, but they are obstructing this, wanting the funds to go into their own banks for distribution. This is a profound insult to the lives of the citizens."

The PUK has devised an extensive strategy to reform the banking system and fight financial monopoly in the Kurdistan Region, intending to send an expert team to the Kurdistan Parliament to eliminate the monopoly and end the pocket-filling of the party that dominates the banking system and employee salaries.

PUK President: Vote for those who deliver on their promises

"Vote for those who deliver on their promises," President Bafel said during his message to the electorate, adding: "If you wish to bring about change, vote on October 20 for the party that can steer Kurdistan in the right direction and enhance your standard of living."

Kurdistan Region's banking system is monopolised

Dr. Sherwan Mohammed, candidate number 49 of the PUK List 129 for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections in Erbil constituency, told PUKMEDIA: "The banking system is crucial to the nation; however, in Kurdistan, it is not only overlooked but also monopolised and politicised by a specific party. Corruption and wasting public funds have taken place, jeopardising the entire banking system in the Kurdistan Region."

"The PUK has recognised these threats and seeks to eliminate the monopoly and corruption while establishing a government-owned national bank independent of party control," he continued.

The PUK will end the monopoly by elections

Hardi Shahid Qadir, candidate number 11 of the PUK List 129 for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections in Sulaymaniyah constituency, told PUKMEDIA: "The PUK prioritises the interests of citizens and views this election as a chance to eliminate the existing monopoly in the banking system, budget, and salaries."

"The PUK has previously sent delegations to Baghdad multiple times regarding salary issues on behalf of the Kurdistan Regional Government to address the financial disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, thereby proving President Bafel's message," he stated.

The PUK will destroy monopoly

Sawsan Shahin, candidate number 16 on the PUK List 129 for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections in Duhok constituency, told PUKMEDIA: "The PUK and President Bafel have always been with the voice of the Kurdish people and have been against starving people and wasting public funds, which is why we have made "We Will End It" our slogan for this election as we want to end monopoly and pocket-filling.”

"Banks should serve the citizens of this region rather than cater solely to the interests of individuals or families for personal gain. The PUK will implement changes with the support of the people," she stated.

The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is contesting with PUK List 129 and 172 candidates under the slogan "We Will End It."
