PUK President: Only PUK Can Correct the Course of Governance

PUK President publishes a statement regarding upcoming elections

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), delivers a message to the electorate and the people of Kurdistan, posing several significant questions: "Has this government managed to safeguard the sacred land of Kurdistan, for which many sacrifices and lives were lost in the struggle against dictatorship, while now they are selling off this holy land for their own gain?"

President Bafel Jalal Talabani stated in his message: "These elections are crucial and unlike previous ones; your votes will not be wasted. There are two parties that significantly affect your lives—one of which has been in power for several years. That party holds the position of Prime Minister, and it holds the key ministries. Ask yourselves: look at your children. Are you satisfied with the governance of that party? Has it defended your rights as it should? Has it adequately protected the land of Kurdistan? This party is selling the very land for which we have made immense sacrifices, benefitting those who oppose the Kurds and Kurdistan."

President Bafel Jalal Talabani explained: "You should feel secure, unlike today when drones from various countries hover above us, while citizens and young people are being killed without anyone speaking out. The ruling party in Kurdistan is solely focused on its own interests and profits. Let’s be honest: citizens need their salaries. Baghdad is willing to send these payments, but they are obstructing this, wanting the funds to go into their own banks for distribution. This is a profound insult to the lives of the citizens."

PUK President stated: "Do you understand how valued Kurdistan once was to the international community? Our courts were distinct, our government was unique, and citizens could freely express their opinions. Now, who can voice a different perspective? We have writers and civilians arrested for merely expressing an opinion or making a small comment on social media, labeled as terrorists, and put on trial."

He added: "If you wish to bring about change, vote on October 20 for the party that can steer Kurdistan in the right direction and enhance your standard of living. I’m not claiming that the PUK is without faults; it has faced many challenges, much like a household dealing with issues after the father’s passing. However, the PUK is now strong and united. Our priority will be to view Kurdistan as a whole, without distinguishing between regions. We will work together to provide services to everyone and put an end to discrimination among areas."

He continued: "Vote for those who deliver on their promises. Give me and the PUK a chance. For years, we have fulfilled our commitments. We promised to change the election law, and we did. We said we would make Kirkuk green, and we accomplished that. We returned the governor to the PUK, to the Kurds, and to you."

President Bafel finally said: "I have a message for the cadres of the PUK, the families of martyrs, the disabled, political prisoners, and our heroic Peshmerga. This is the PUK you asked for: a strong, unified force standing firm against the enemies of Kurdistan. Its voice resonates in Baghdad, and its relations with the international community have reverted to the level they reached during President Mam Jalal's time. The PUK supports and stands with you. Vote for the PUK, the party that keeps its promises. The PUK belongs to you and will always stand by you. It is the only party capable of correcting the misguided course of governance... only the PUK."
