IHEC Announces Date for Starting Campaigns for Kurdistan Elections

Kurdistan Kurdistan Parliament Elections IHEC Iraq

The campaigns for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections are scheduled to begin at 12:00 Am on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 and will continue until the end of October 15, 2024.

Judge Omar Ahmed, President of the Board of Commissioners of the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), announced during a press conference on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 that the campaigns for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections will begin at 12 AM tonight and will continue until the end of October 15, 2024.

"The commission approved the names of candidates, lists and coalitions, which include 136 lists and 1,191 candidates, including 823 male candidates and 368 female candidates, and the minority communities have 38 candidates," Ahmed said.

"We call on all parties involved in the election to adhere to the electoral system and conduct the campaigns and election process in a civilized manner and free from any form of violence," he added.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has 172 candidates for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, including 72 in Sulaymaniyah, 64 in Erbil, 30 in Duhok, and 6 in Halabja.
 
The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is fully prepared for the election and aims to rectify the poor governance in the Kurdistan Region by means of this democratic process and establish a service government.
