Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met separately with Janet Alberda, the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Iraq, Radu Butum, Head of the European Union (EU) Liaison Office in the Kurdistan Region, and Norwegian MPs Asmund Aukrust and Mani Hussaini.
The three meetings held in Erbil on Monday (September 23, 2024) addressed the preparations for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections and the phenomenon of youth migration to European countries.
Regarding the illegal migration of young people to Europe, the DPM Talabani stressed that the best solution to prevent illegal migration of youth is to improve their conditions in the Kurdistan Region.
"EU countries can prevent illegal migration of youth more effectively by promoting investment in the Kurdistan Region, creating job opportunities for young people and youth training projects in various fields, especially in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation," he said.
During other segments of the talks, DPM Talabani emphasised the necessity of holding transparent and fair elections in the Kurdistan Region that accurately represent the desires of the Kurdish people. He urged international organisations and EU countries to closely monitor the electoral process.
