Kurdistan Region's Vice President Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa emphasised the need to accelerate the reform process and unite the Peshmerga forces to achieve forming a unified national force under the umbrella of the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
 
Kurdistan VP Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa received Colonel Chris Rheingans, Supervisor of Organising Peshmerga Divisions, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the US Department of Defense and the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
 
A statement from the Kurdistan Vice President's office, shared with PUKMEDIA, indicated that both parties emphasised the necessity of accelerating the reform process and reuniting the Peshmerga to form a unified national force, while acknowledging that the Islamic State (ISIS) remains a threat to regional peace and stability. Consequently, they deemed the collaboration and coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army, backed by the global coalition against ISIS, to be crucial at this juncture.
 
The meeting also highlighted the steps taken towards progress regarding the reform of the Peshmerga forces as part of the long-term joint commitment to reunite the Peshmerga forces under the umbrella of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs according to the Memorandum of Understanding between the US Department of Defense and the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs of the Kurdistan Region.
