Saadi Ahmed Pire, Spokesperson of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
Saadi Ahmed Pire, Spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), confirmed that the PUK is working to correct the the course of governance in the Kurdistan Region.
"The PUK is working to correct the course of governance in the Kurdistan Region and end everything that is wrong, hold fair and transparent elections away from fraud and manipulation, and is striving to fight corruption and provide the best services to citizens," PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire said in a press conference.
September 25, 2024 is the date to the start of the elections campaigns because the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) is continuing to verify the eligibility of candidates," he added, while also stressing that "the PUK is ready for the election campaigns and to run in the elections."
"The Kurdistan parliamentary elections will be held on time and no party has requested to postpone them," he said, emphasising that the international community supports holding the elections as they are a factor in empowering the Kurdistan Region, correcting the course of governance and addressing all problems.
"We are part of Iraq, so we must work with the Iraqi government in all fields... And to address the problems through dialogue and understanding," he added.
Regarding the census in the Kurdistani regions out side the Kurdistan Region's administration, Pire said the PUK is boosting efforts to encourage citizens to return to these regions to take part in the census as it will have a great impact on the lives of citizens.
The unimplemented Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution was largely drafted to address the issue of the disputed territories between Erbil and Baghdad. In the provinces of Diyala, Kirkuk, Nineveh, and Saladin, the former Iraqi Ba'ath regime made great efforts to Arabize the population, which was the cause of these disputes.
