The names of all journalists martyred in the past 21 years are engraved on the monument which is placed close to the Platform of Freedom at Azadi Park in Sulaymaniyah. The number also includes foreign journalists who were martyred in Iraq.
During the unveiling ceremony of the monument, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, who came up with the idea of building the monument said: "The fallen journalists will remain immortals, while the legacy of their killers is one of lasting shame.
