PUK Election Bureau & UNAMI's meeting.
On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Rizgar Haji Hama, Head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) Election Bureau, met with the Electoral Assistance Team of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) at the PUK's Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil, in the presence of Hakim Sabir, Head of the Election Administrative Board.
The focus was on the procedural aspects of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, emphasising the importance of ensuring a transparent and peaceful electoral process.
During the meeting, the Head of the Election Bureau emphasized the importance of UNAMI and the Electoral Assistance Team's roles, as well as the importance of conducting the election in a peaceful environment.
He urged UNAMI to closely monitor the peaceful conduct of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, similar to the 2021 and 2023 elections, in which UNAMI's assistance and collaboration, as well as the effective and active presence of its representatives in all provinces, were critical in ensuring the elections' integrity and acceptance by influential political parties.
The team expressed UNAMI's willingness to help the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission ensure the success of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.
The UNAMI delegation included Aamir Arain, Director UNAMI Electoral Assistance, and Aso Kaka, the team's advisor.
