Kurdistan Elections IHEC Iraq Kurdistan Parliament

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced that the verification of candidates' eligibility for the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections is ongoing.

"The IHEC continues to verify the candidates' eligibility for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections," IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA.

"After this process is completed, the IHEC will approve the candidates' eligibility and announce the start of election campaigns," Ghalai stated.

IHEC: Over 200,000 Voters are Yet to Collect Their Voting Cards

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) spokesperson announced the number of voter cards in the Kurdistan Region provinces, stating that 2 million 685 thousand 466 of the total of 2 million 899 thousand 578 voting cards have been retrieved by their owners, with 214 thousand 112 people still waiting to collect their cards.

139 Lists to Compete in Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

The Kurdistan parliamentary elections for the sixth term are scheduled for October 20, 2024, and will feature 139 coalitions, parties, lists, and independent candidates.

124 candidates have registered, including 85 independents, 20 Turkmen, and 19 Christians. The Turkmen candidates are divided into two groups: 14 from Erbil and 6 from Sulaymaniyah. The 19 Christian candidates are divided into three constituencies: Erbil (7), Sulaymaniyah (4), and Duhok (8).
