A United Nations (UN) delegation visited the Iraqi parliament to evaluate the requirements needed for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections. They spoke with several lawmakers and the PUK faction urged the UN to take an active role in the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.

The PUK faction in the Iraqi parliament said in a statement, obtained by PUKMEDIA, that the UN delegation visited the Iraqi parliament to provide support from the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) for holding the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.

"As MPs of the faction, we emphasised the significance of conducting the Kurdistan parliamentary elections and conveyed our trust in the expertise and competence of the IHEC to effectively carry out the electoral process," the statement said.

"At the same time, we have had an bitter experience with the Kurdistan Electoral Commission due to the failure of the commission law and the election law in Kurdistan to uphold the integrity of the electoral process," asserted the statement.

The PUK faction further urged the United Nations to take an active role in the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament.
