The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction in the Iraqi Parliament strongly condemned the Turkish drone attacks targeting the people of the Kurdistan Region, stating that the silence of the Iraqi government and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) legitimises the attacks.

The PUK faction urged the KRG and the Iraqi government to end their silence and adopt a firm position in a statement sent to PUKMEDIA.

7 people were martyred in Duhok, Sulaymaniyah

Seven people, including a child, were martyred in separate Turkish drone attacks on Duhok and Sulaymaniyah provinces in the past 72 hours.

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle near the village of Gomawan in Chwarta district, Sulaymaniyah, martyring three people.

On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, another Turkish drone targeted a vehicle and killed three people in Khalakan sub-district, Sulaymaniyah. Three people were martyred, including a father and his two sons, one of them was a only a child.

PUK faction: We strongly condemn these attacks

The PUK faction issued the following statement: "We strongly condemn the ruthless attacks carried out by Turkish drones on Kurdistan citizens, especially in light of the fact that seven citizens have died in two separate incidents in the Sulaymaniyah and Duhok provinces in the last 72 hours. They were members of two families, one of whom was a child, while several other citizens were injured."

"The persistent attacks and the lack of response from the Iraqi government and KRG regarding the martyrdom and injuries of citizens, as well as the infringements against Iraqi sovereignty, are a kind of giving legitimacy to the attacks," stated the PUK faction.

The PUK faction once again calls on the Iraqi government and the KRG to "break this silence and take a serious stance."

The Kurdistan Region has been the target of 845 civilian attacks by Turkish and Iranian forces in the past 33 years, according to the American Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT). Of these, 425 have died as martyrs, the majority of them during the Turkish attacks.

"No one in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq is preventing Türkiye, so they are targeting our regions every day," Kamran Osman, head of the CPT's Human Rights Disc, told PUKMEDIA.
