The candidates representing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections throughout all four constituencies fulfil the candidature criteria and possess integrity, without any criminal history.
The most recent assessment by Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on the eligibility of candidates reveals that all candidates from the PUK remain eligible and none have been rejected for failing to fulfil the candidature criteria.
According to figures provided to PUKMEDIA by the PUK Election Bureau, the PUK has 172 candidates running for the next sixth term of parliament. This includes 72 candidates from Sulaymaniyah, 64 from Erbil, 30 from Duhok, and 6 from Halabja.
Each constituency has a list leader: Shalaw Kosrat Rasul represents Erbil; Dr. Miran Mohammed represents Sulaymaniyah; Ali Oremari represents Duhok; and Barzan Osman represents Halabja.
The data indicates that more than 30% of the candidates on the PUK lists are female. There are 62 women in the pool of candidates, with 24 in Erbil, 26 in Sulaymaniyah, 10 in Duhok, and 2 in Halabja.
On June 26, 2024, the Kurdistan Region's Presidency issued a fifth decree, rescheduling the sixth term of Kurdistan parliamentary elections for October 20, 2024. The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) is currently making preparations to ensure that the elections take place as scheduled.
