The Iraqi Presidency of the Republic issued a statement refuting news reports that claim the President of the Republic plans to draft amendments to the Elections Law.
The Iraqi Presidency said in a statement: "The Presidency of the Republic refutes claims that have recently been circulating on social media. These false claims allege that the Presidency, along with co-leaders of the Coordination Framework, are planning to draft a new amendment to the electoral law."
"This information is completely unfounded and has no factual basis. It is based on rumors and conjecture and is not to be taken seriously," it added. "There is no truth to hearsay, and it serves only to generate political confusion and destabilize the current state of affairs."
"In response to these unfounded allegations, the Presidency of the Republic of Iraq reserves the right to take legal action in order to fight against slander and libel by the individuals involved and those threatening social peace and security and the country's political stability," it said.
"We are currently focused on bridging gaps and fostering dialogue among political partners. Such efforts aim to improve the quality of government services, as well as ensure that the promises made to the public by the government are honored," the statement emphasised.
