Rights of Turkmen Will Be Protected in Kirkuk Administration

The  Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is implementing the policy of Mam Jalal in Kirkuk and aims to involve all communities in serving the people of the city.

"Our Turkmen brothers should participate in the local government and join the alliance to serve the people of Kirkuk," said a member of the PUK faction in the Iraqi parliament.

President Bafel: We will make Kirkuk a model of coexistence and peace

PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani congratulated the Kurds on the appointment of the governor of Kirkuk and said: "The PUK is pursuing President Mam Jalal's policy in Kirkuk and works for all communities in the city without any bias. We must reconcile Kirkuk and make it a model of coexistence and peace."

All Communities should participate in serving Kirkuk

Sabah Sheikh Habib, an Iraqi Parliament member affiliated with the PUK faction, stated to PUKMEDIA that the PUK is making every effort to ensure the inclusion of all communities in Kirkuk in the local government. 

"As part of this commitment, the positions of deputy governor and deputy speaker of the Kirkuk Provincial Council have been assigned to members of the Turkmen community," he said

"We seek the participation of all communities in the city to serve the residents of Kirkuk, which will have a greater impact in the future," added Habib.

"The assignment of positions within the Kirkuk local government will be based on the electoral merits of the different communities. Following the first council meeting on Thursday, August 15, 2024, the distribution of positions among the communities will begin," he stated.

The Iraqi provincial council elections were held on December 18, 2023. The Kirkuk is Our Strength & Will Coalition, formed by the alliance between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Communist Party, emerged as the leading political force in Kirkuk. It secured the highest number of votes in the province, with a total of 157,639 votes, accounting for 43% of the votes. Additionally, the coalition won 5 seats, establishing its dominance across all communities in the province.

Through its governor, the PUK is implementing Mam Jalal's Policy in Kirkuk

"We urge our Turkmen brothers in Kirkuk to join the alliance and secure their rights and privileges in the local government," Gaylan Qadir, a member of the PUK faction in the Iraqi parliament, told PUKMEDIA.

"The PUK aims to achieve its goal of serving the people of Kirkuk by involving all communities in the local government," stated Qadir.

Al-Sabah newspaper, the Iraqi government's official newspaper, wrote in its editorial on Monday, August 12, 2024, under the title (Kirkuk, a Smaller Version of Iraq). The article said that the PUK's vow not to exclude anyone in Kirkuk, may help to reduce the degree of stress.
