Rebwar Taha: I Will be Governor of All Kirkuk Communities Without Bias

The newly elected governor of Kirkuk has conveyed a statement affirming his commitment to govern all segments of people in Kirkuk and foster a period of tranquilly, economic well-being, and public service for all residents of Kirkuk.
Rebwar Taha, the leader of the Kirkuk is Our Strength & Will Coalition, has been chosen on Saturday late hours, August 10, 2024, as the governor of Kirkuk on the share of the Kurdish community.
In his statement, Kirkuk's newly appointed governor, Rebwar Taha, emphasised that a new era will commence in Kirkuk, starting today which will bring peace, prosperity, and equitable service to all people, without any form of discrimination.
He affirmed commitment to enhancing security and stability, elevating service quality, revitalising the economic infrastructure, diversifying sectors, and using the abundant resources of Kirkuk to enhance the well-being of its residents.
"We further emphasise that we would utilise this position as a means to foster political and social reconciliation, enhance mutual acceptance, cooperation, and promote brotherhood and coexistence among all populations in Kirkuk, without any form of prejudice," Taha said
"We also stress that the new governor of Kirkuk will represent and serve the Kurds, Arabs, Turkmens, Christians, and all other communities in Kirkuk without any form of discrimination," he stated.
The Iraqi provincial council elections were held on December 18, 2023. The Kirkuk is Our Strength & Will Coalition, formed by the alliance between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Communist Party, emerged as the leading political force in Kirkuk. It secured the highest number of votes in the province, with a total of 157,639 votes, accounting for 43% of the votes. Additionally, the coalition won 5 seats, establishing its dominance across all communities in the province.
Rebwar Taha's Biography:
Rebwar Taha was born in 1981 in Kirkuk and received his primary and secondary schooling there. He possesses a Bachelor's degree in English Language Education, a Bachelor's degree in Law, and a Diploma in Administration and Law. From the time of Iraq's liberation until 2014, he focused on matters related to security and counter-terrorism. In 2014, he was elected to the Iraqi Parliament for the first time and served as a member of the Integrity Committee.
Taha played a pivotal role in safeguarding the lives and assets of the residents of Kirkuk following the referendum and the events on October 16. In 2018, he assumed his second term as a member of the Iraqi Parliament, representing the PUK list. Additionally, he held the position of deputy chairman of the Oil and Energy Committee.
In addition, he served as the deputy drafter of the rules of procedure for the Iraqi parliament.
During his tenure in the third and fourth terms of the Iraqi Parliament, he staunchly advocated for the concerns and lawful entitlements of the Kurdish people and the city of Kirkuk.
He was elected to serve in the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) during the PUK's fourth and fifth congresses. He actively engaged in numerous international political conferences, courses, and workshops focused on administration and parliamentary matters.
In 2023, he ran in Iraq's provincial council elections as the leader of the Kirkuk is Our Strength & Will party and was elected as a member of the Kirkuk province council.
