IHEC: Over 500,000 Voting Cards have been Distributed

Kurdistan Parliament Kurdistan Iraq IHEC Elections

The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) reported that over 500,000 biometric voting cards had been distributed to citizens in Iraq's Kurdistan Region. Sulaymaniyah has the highest number of people who have collected their voting cards out of any province.

Sulaymaniyah ranks first in distributing voting cards

In a report provided to PUKMEDIA, the IHEC reported that, between January 1, 2024, and July 25, 2024, 512,497 people received their voting cards.

According to the statement, Sulaymaniyah has 301,696 registered voters, including Halabja. 194,470 voters have already collected their voting cards, while 107,649 remain to be collected. Erbil has a total of 349,639 voters. 180,441 voters have already collected their voting cards, with 169,198 still awaiting retrieval. Duhok province has a total of 349,696 registered voters. 138,009 voters have already collected their voting cards, with 29,653 remaining to be collected.

There are about 4 million voters in Kurdistan Region

IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA that the Kurdistan Region has 3,789,360 voters. A total of 2,901,080 voters have been registered, excluding those who will take part in special voting. This figure represents the number of registered voters as of July 3rd, 2024, following the completion of the voter record update process.

On June 26, 2024, the Kurdistan Region's Presidency issued a fifth decree, rescheduling the sixth term of Kurdistan parliamentary elections for October 20, 2024. The IHEC is currently making preparations to ensure that the elections take place as scheduled.
