Vice President: Elections Will help Fill Kurdistan Region's Current Legal Void

The Vice President of the Kurdistan Region stated that conducting the Kurdistan Parliament elections as scheduled will prevent the Region from facing the current legal void it is encountering.

The media office of Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, the Vice President of the Region has issued a statement, received by PUKMEDIA, stating that Sheikh Jaafar held a meeting on Friday with Yann Braem, the French Consul General in the Region. During the meeting, Mr. Jaafar emphasised the importance of conducting the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections in a manner that is both free and democratic.

The discussion also addressed the matter of countering terrorism and the risks and perils posed by ISIS, as well as the process of reform and reunification of the Peshmerga forces. There was a shared understanding on both of these problems.

The Vice President expressed that the Kurdistan Region is presently experiencing a state of legal vacuum, and conducting the elections will help resolve this situation.

The French Consul General affirmed the ongoing provision of French military support to the Peshmerga, particularly in relation to training and the reformation of the Peshmerga Ministry with the aim of unifying the Peshmerga forces.
