CTG Apprehends a Prominent ISIS Leader in Kirkuk

The General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) successfully apprehended a high-ranking member of the terrorist organisation Islamic State (ISIS) in the Shwan district.

According to a statement by the directorate, the CTG, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security in Kirkuk and the Kirkuk Intelligence Service, and with the assistance of the Rapid Response Force in the province, successfully apprehended a high-ranking leader of the terrorist organisation ISIS. This operation took place in the Shwan district of Kirkuk province.

As per the statement, the wanted terrorist, who held a leadership position within the organisation operating in the so-called "Tigris province", was being sought by the Nineveh Court of Investigation on charges of terrorism under Article 4 of Terrorism.

"Previously, the terrorist was affiliated with an element within the organisation known as "Diwan al-Jund". After that, he claimed leadership of the "Tigris Province" and engaged in multiple operations against security forces. He evaded capture by fleeing to the Kirkuk province and got involved with the sleeping cells, the statement added.

The perpetrator has been apprehended and transferred to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
