Over 800,000 Voting Cards Returned to Voters of Kurdistan Region

According to the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), over 800,000 voters in the Kurdistan Region have received their voter cards in the last six months, and Sulaymaniyah is on top of all 18 provinces of Iraq in terms of the number of voters who have received their voting cards, as the Kurdistan Region is set to hold the parliamentary election on October 20, 2024.
Erbil had the highest registration
The IHEC has published figures for the issuance and receipt of voting cards by Kurdistan Region residents over the last six months, from January 1, 2024, to July 11, 2024. 349,639 persons registered for voting cards, out of which 164,838 citizens successfully obtained their cards.
In Sulaymaniyah province, 301,696 residents' voting cards were processed, and 179,217 citizens collected their cards. In Duhok province, 167,662 citizens' voting cards have been processed, and 116,482 citizens have received their cards. A total of 460,537 voting cards have been distributed to citizens across the three provinces.
Most cards have been returned in Sulaymaniyah
"Out of Iraq's 18 provinces, Sulaymaniyah has the most voting cards returned to citizens, totaling 179,217 cards. Erbil, on the other hand, has the most voter card registrations (349,639 in total)," IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA.
Around 360,000 cards are still unclaimed by their owners
In the province of Erbil, 122,479 voting cards are still unreturned to voters; in the province of Sulaymaniyah, 51,180 voting cards are still unreturned to voters; and these statistics are reported in the IHEC report. In the Kurdistan Region, 358,460 cards have not yet been claimed by their owners.
Furthermore, the report notes that 818,997 people in the three provinces of the Kurdistan Region registered to vote over the course of the previous six months. 460,537 people were able to obtain their cards out of them.
