An IDP camp
According to the Director of the Kurdistan Region Governorates Department at the Federal Ministry of Migration and Displacement, the last group of IDPs from Sulaymaniyah Province will be returned home under the supervision of the ministry. As a result, tomorrow will mark the closure of every camp for IDPs in Sulaymaniyah, leaving no IDPs in the city.
Samer Mashkur, the Director of the Kurdistan Region Governorates Department at the Federal Ministry of Migration and Displacement, told PUKMEDIA: "Tomorrow, the final group of IDPs from Sulaymaniyah will be returned to their homes, with the Iraqi Minister of Migration and Refugees in attendance. Consequently, all IDP camps within the province will be shut down."
"Currently, there are only 64 families left in Ashti camp at Arbat in Sulaymaniyah. All necessary legal steps have been done to facilitate their return. Tomorrow, the families will leave the camp as part of the Iraqi Ministry of Migration's initiative to return the IDPs," he added.
Mashkur also said: "The invasion of ISIS and the instability in central and southern Iraqi cities resulted to a significant number of IDPs seeking refuge in camps in Sulaymaniyah. The return of these 64 families will mark the completion of the return of IDPs in the province."
