About 4 Million Eligible to Vote in Upcoming Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

The total number of voters eligible for general voting in the Kurdistan Region is approximately 3.8 million. Out of this total, 2.901 million voters have registered their names with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC). Moreover, the Sulaymaniyah Province holds the highest position in terms of the number of registered voters.
IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai informed PUKMEDIA that the exact number of voters in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq is 3,789,360. A total of 2,901,080 voters have been registered, excluding those who will participate in special voting.
She added: "In Erbil Province, there are 1,16,357 registered voters out of a total of 1,366,462 voters. In Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja Province), the number of registered voters with the IHEC is 1,146,530, which is the highest in the Kurdistan Region. However, the total number of voters in Sulaymaniyah is 1,496,152. The Duhok Province has a total of 926,746 voters, out of which 738,193 voters are eligible to vote and are registered with the IHEC."
She also verified that "this figure represents the ultimate count of registered voters, as of July 3rd, 2024, after the completion of the voter records updating process."
On 26 June 2024, Dilshad Shihab, the Spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, said that the presidency had determined October 20, 2024, as the new date for conducting the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections.
Ghalai further stated that the Commission is fully prepared to conduct the elections on the specified date.
"IHEC will oversee the entire electoral process through the national office and its regional offices in the provinces of the Kurdistan Region. This includes managing voting operations, counting votes, sorting ballots, and declaring the final results. Furthermore, appeals will be lodged with the judicial body of the IHEC," she added.
