Metro Centre for Journalists Rights & Advocacy welcomes the request made by Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, that officials should receive the citizens' criticism with receptiveness and refrain from filing lawsuits against anyone because of their criticism, complaints, and rage.

During his meeting with the mayor and authorities in Chamchamal town of Sulaymaniyah province, DPM Talabani urged the officials of Chamchamal to receive the criticism of citizens with open hearts and refrain from filing lawsuits against anyone in response to their criticism, complaints, and rage.

"The law should be utilised to enforce and facilitate the affairs of citizens, rather than exacerbating issues for an enraged and discontented citizen," he declared.

Upon the request of the Mayor's Office of Halabja district, Nuxsha Nasih, the mayor of Halabja, has withdrawn the complaint against Bryar Kamal Mohammed, a baker, which was brought by the joint committees of the Mayor's Office. Consequently, Mohammed has been released today.

Metro Centre expressed its support for the Deputy Prime Minister by emphasising that they have repeatedly urged officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government to perceive criticism, slurs, jokes, protests, caricatures, and satirical writing as opportunities to enhance their performance, rather than resorting to legal action against citizens and writers for expressing these views.
