Iraqi President Emphasises Enhancing Ties with Canada, Italy

President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid of Iraq held individual meetings with the Ambassadors of Italy and Canada in the Baghdad Palace. 

On Monday, June 10, 2024, President Rashid held a meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Iraq Maurizio Greganti, who was joined by the Italian Parliament Member Mauro Del Barba.  

The Iraqi President commended the robust diplomatic, economic, cultural, and environmental ties between Iraq and Italy. He emphasised the significance of enhancing and advancing these relations, highlighting the shared cultural and historical heritage of the two nations. In this context, he emphasised the necessity of collaboration and coordination in archaeological missions and excavation endeavours. The President also commended the contribution of Italian companies that have operated in Iraq in both the past and today, emphasising the importance of strengthening their presence in the nation.

Italian Ambassador Greganti appreciated the Iraqi President's invitation for his Italian counterpart to visit Iraq. He mentioned that preparations are currently being made to organise the visit in the near future. Griganti emphasised Italy's commitment to supporting Iraq's security and stability, as well as the desire to enhance bilateral relations for the benefit of both countries.

Iraqi President, Canadian Ambassador emphasise enhancing bilateral ties

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, President Rashid held a meeting with Canadian Ambassador to Iraq Kathy Bunka.

The Iraqi President emphasised the significance of enhancing the bilateral relations between Iraq and Canada. He highlighted the necessity of fostering collaborative efforts to promote mutual interests. Furthermore, he emphasised the value of leveraging Canadian expertise and experiences in addressing climate and environmental challenges. The President also underscored the importance of Canadian companies entering the Iraqi market and benefiting from investment prospects, particularly in the area of infrastructure rehabilitation.

He expressed Iraq's eagerness to collaborate with allies and partners in order to strengthen peace and stability. Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of promoting constructive communication to address crises and alleviate tensions in the region, with the ultimate goal of achieving prosperity for all nations involved.

Ambassador Bunka conveyed her nation's keenness to enhance bilateral ties with Iraq and her willingness to actively participate in reconstruction initiatives and facilitate the growth of trade and investment activities, as well as exchanging economic, scientific, and medical expertise.
