The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has declared the commencement of the registration process for alliances and political parties interested in taking part in the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.
Jumana al-Ghalai, the Spokesperson for the IHEC, informed PUKMEDIA that the IHEC has made the decision to reopen the registration process for coalitions, political parties, independent candidates, and candidates representing communities who intend to participate in the 2024 Kurdistan parliamentary elections.
Ghalai announced that the IHEC has set a timeframe for the registration, which will be from June 8th, 2024, to June 13th, 2024. Parties and coalitions are also eligible to register during this period.
Prior to this, a total of 10 political coalitions and 54 independent candidates had registered to take part in the next parliamentary elections.
On May 29, 2024, the IHEC formally requested the Kurdistan Region Presidency to schedule the general elections for the Kurdistan Parliament. Additionally, the IHEC recommended September 5, 2024, as the specific date for the elections.
