Iraqi President: PUK's Establishment was Great Endeavor in Struggle for Freedom

On the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the establishment of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid conveyed a message, emphasising the significance of June 1 in the history of the Kurdish people. Today marks the founding of the PUK and the commencement of a significant revolutionary endeavour to secure the nation's freedom.

 

The message from President Rashid stated:

June 1 holds a valuable historical significance for our people. Today marks the founding of the PUK and the commencement of a significant revolutionary endeavour to secure the nation's freedom.

 

49 years ago, the PUK, under the leadership of the late President Mam Jalal, embarked on a mission to accomplish the significant and strategic objectives of the Kurdish people, with the support and unity of the founding leaders, Peshmerga fighters, members, and citizens of Kurdistan. Countless patriots sacrificed their lives for this cause, bravely confronting oppression and dictatorship with their blood.

 

The PUK has consistently upheld the principles of democracy, peace, and human rights. It has differentiated between the sons of the country in its pursuit of these objectives, which is why its standing in Kurdistan and Iraq has consistently been robust and influential.

 

The PUK has consistently played a significant role in many phases, including challenging dictatorship, establishing the Kurdistan Regional Government, and contributing to the reconstruction of the new Iraq. At present, due to its influential role and position, extensive experience, and ongoing efforts, the party is at a crucial stage in its pursuit of stability, prosperity, and the strengthening of democracy in the country in collaboration with all national forces and political parties to ensure a respectable and honourable life for citizens.
