PUK, Dawa: Kurdistan Region-Baghdad Relations Must be Reorganised

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Islamic Dawa Party-Iraq Organisation convened on Monday, May 20, 2024, to deliberate on the most recent political advancements and the state of ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
Qubad Talabani, the Supervisor of President Mam Jalal's Secretariat Bureau, was joined by Shalaw Kosrat Rasul Ali, Saadi Ahmed Pire, Rewaz Fayeq, and Salar Sarhad in welcoming a high-ranking delegation from the Islamic Dawa Party-Iraq Organisation. The delegation was led by the Dawa Party's Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Asadi. The meeting took place at the PUK's Political Bureau Building.
The participants engaged in a dialogue regarding relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. Both parties reached a consensus on the necessity of restructuring the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad in a manner that is appropriate for the present circumstances and benefits all Iraqi citizens.
Qubad Talabani emphasised the significant historical relationship between the PUK and the Shiite house, which has consistently been in the interest of the public. He stressed the importance of further strengthening this historical collaboration to uphold security and stability in Iraq. Additionally, he highlighted the need to address and resolve the current and future challenges and crises faced by Iraq and Kurdistan.
The Supervisor of the Secretariat Bureau of President Mam Jalal stated: "Despite the temporary void in Baghdad following President Mam Jalal's illness and death, the PUK, under the leadership of President Bafel Talabani, has successfully restructured itself. Furthermore, the PUK maintains strong relationships with all Iraqi parties, and its position remains as robust as it was previously."
Dr. Khalid Asadi commended the historical relationship between the Kurds and Shiites and lauded President Mam Jalal for his efforts in establishing and fortifying this relationship. He regarded President Mam Jalal as a prominent figure and a national leader who safeguarded the interests of everybody.
The Deputy Secretary General of the Dawa Party-Iraq Organisation articulated his perspective on the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. He emphasised the necessity of collaborative efforts among all Kurdish and Iraqi parties to develop a new strategy and vision for the present and future governance of Iraq.
