Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid congratulated Kurdish journalists on the occasion of Kurdish Journalism Day and the 126th anniversary of publishing the first issue of Kurdistan Newspaper, the first Kurdish newspaper.
President Rashid said in a post on his account on the X platform: In the Kurdish language.
On the occasion of the 126th anniversary of Kurdish Journalism, we would like to express our heartfelt congratulations to all journalists in Kurdistan. We also remember Miqdad Medhat Badirkhan, the pioneering figure who established Kurdish Journalism, and his publication of the newspaper "Kurdistan," which was the first newspaper in the Kurdish language.
The primary objective of independent and free media is to deliver accurate information to the public, ensuring that daily occurrences are reported in a proficient and impartial manner. This is a fundamental aspect that contributes to the progress and advancement of nations. Through monitoring institutions and spreading awareness among the public, a free press can actively contribute to the development, advancement, and prosperity of a country.
On this anniversary, we reaffirm our support for journalists and media practitioners in Iraq to secure their entitlements and establish a conducive environment for their unrestricted and open work, with the aim of spreading knowledge and awareness in our society.
