Iraqi President: Iraq Seeks Distinguished Relations with Türkiye

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid expressed that Iraq is looking forward to further distinguished relations with neighboring Türkiye when he met with Türkiye’s Ambassador to Iraq Ali Reza Guney at Salam Palace on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

President Rashid and his guest agreed that it is of utmost importance to further develop bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation and coordination between Iraq and Türkiye.

He spoke of the need to bolster joint efforts at the international and regional levels to ensure the region is stable, secure and peaceful.

“Iraq is looking forward to further distinguished relations with neighboring Türkiye at various levels,” he said, adding that Baghdad seeks to develop relations with all brotherly and friendly countries “based on respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs”.

Ambassador Guney expressed his country's commitment to consolidating cooperation and mutual coordination in order to reach understandings on bilateral and regional matters.

He also provided an overview of the arrangements in place for the Turkish President's visit to Iraq.
