PUK President: PUK is Ready for Elections

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Russian Council General Maxim Rubin.

Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, the Head of the Relations Bureau, attended the meeting. They discussed President Bafel Jalal Talabani's visit and his talks in Russia. They also underlined the importance of continuing to cooperate and growing the relationship in a way that benefits both sides.

Another topic discussed at the meeting was elections in the Kurdistan Region, with a focus on holding free and fair elections without outside interference. President Bafel stated: "The PUK is ready for the elections, and we hope that the democratic process will result in strong and healthy governance and the revitalization of the Kurdistan Region."

He went on to say: "Putting obstacles in the way of the process is damaging to the Kurdish people's will and portrays the Kurdistan Region negatively to the international community. Furthermore, the fate of a nation and its lofty values cannot be manipulated anymore."

During the meeting, both sides emphasised the importance of continuing national efforts to protect people's lives and regional stability while discussing issues between Erbil and Baghdad and conflict resolution.
