The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) is scheduled to carry out the first simulation procedure for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections in the four provinces of the Kurdistan Region on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
Names of candidates will be sent
Jumana al-Ghalai, the Spokesperson for the IHEC, informed PUKMEDIA that the verification process for candidate names is ongoing and that today, the candidate names will be forwarded to the Ministry of Interior and the Integrity Commission in both the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad to ensure the eligibility of the candidates.
"The IHEC has disqualified a candidate from Erbil due to their failure to submit their data and information within the specified timeframe," Ghalai stated.
The election will not be postponed
The spokesperson of the IHEC clarified that no decision has been made about the postponement or cancellation of the elections and that the commission is fully prepared to carry out the electoral process on June 10, 2024.
She announced that today they will conduct the first simulation process on the ballot paper, and once this process is finished and confirmed, it will be approved by the council of commissioners. Subsequently, the names of the candidates will be included on the ballot paper, which will then be printed.
"The Kurdistan parliamentary election campaign will take place approximately one month prior to the election process, and the council of commissioners will determine the duration of the campaign," she stated.
