The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) extends its congratulations to the people of Kurdistan on the occasion of Newroz and the anniversary of the liberation of Kirkuk. It emphasises that this year's Newroz signifies the beginning of another phase of civil struggle, namely the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.
The PUK Political Bureau's Newroz message read:
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Kurdish people on the national holiday of Newroz and the Kurdish New Year (2724), as well as the anniversary of liberating Kirkuk. We hope that this year's Newroz will herald positive developments in terms of democratic change and the holding of elections, with the aim of better serving our people and their lives and livelihoods.
Newroz is a celebration observed by various nations, symbolizing the arrival of spring and the rejuvenation of nature and life. Newroz holds great significance in the history of the Kurdish people, representing both their pursuit of freedom and prosperity as well as their ongoing resistance against oppression. Since the 1991 uprising, Newroz has become a significant holiday, symbolising national freedom, the day when Kirkuk was liberated, and the pinnacle of the uprising's triumph.
The Newroz celebration this year signifies the commencement of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, marking another significant phase in the ongoing civil struggle. In this endeavour, we await a resounding triumph for the PUK and our nation's experience to rectify the course of government and ensure a more equitable and prosperous life, devoid of any form of prejudice or bias, across the Kurdistan Region.
Happy Newroz and the anniversary of the victory of the uprising!
