President Rashid's meeting with Christian leader
President of the Republic of Iraq Abdullatif Jamal Rashid received several leaders of Christian communities in Iraq as well as Monsignor Mitja Leskovar, Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq, at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, on Thursday.
He expressed his sincere greetings and well-wishes to the visiting delegation, as well as to all Christians in Iraq and worldwide, hoping they have a joyful Christmas and a tranquil and safe holiday season.
"Christians are an indigenous community in Iraq and form an important part of the country’s diversity," President Rashid said.
“They should be guaranteed their rights and be able to participate fully in the administration of the country,” he said.
President Rashid expressed his willingness to meet with religious leaders of all beliefs and faiths in order to address their issues and fulfill their requirements.
President Rashid prayed for the everlasting rest of those who perished in the unfortunate Hamdaniya wedding fire incident. He sent his condolences to the victims' families and prayed to God Almighty to lessen their grief.
In addition, he expressed his sorrow over the continued assault on Gaza, the suffering of the Palestinian people, and the broader issues brought on by the circumstances.
The visiting delegation conveyed their gratitude and appreciation for His Excellency's hospitality and greetings to all the Christians on Christmas Eve, commending His Excellency's steadfast support of peaceful coexistence and social cohesiveness in Iraqi society.
